چکیده

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the comparative geometrical dimensions of Chinese and Western cervical vertebrae. A Chinese neck model, based on MRI/CT scan images and frozen slice images from a 35-year-old male cadaver, was established and compared with literature data and a newlydeveloped Western neck finite element model. Results showed that the geometrical dimensions of Western cervical vertebrae are approximately 20% greater than the Chinese cervical vertebra on the average, and the geometrical dimension ratio at different cervical levels (i.e. C3-C7) of these two cervical vertebrae is different (range 0.96-1.41). Besides, at every level of all cervical vertebrae except C2 there exist evident geometrical differences between the Western and Chinese neck model. In summary, it is necessary to apply the intact anatomic parameters of the Chinese neck rather than the scaled geometry of the Western neck to establish a standard mid-size Chinese neck finite element model.

Specimen-specific Modelling of Cervical Vertebrae in Axial Compression

INTRODUCTION Finite element (FE) models of the cervical spine are needed to evaluate injury prevention devices and to improve our understanding of vertebra fractures, which may injure the spinal cord. However, current FE cervical spine models typically do not incorporate trabecular bone heterogeneity or geometrical differences between spines; therefore, the models are not able to address questi...

Morphologic and Ontogenetic Patterns in Elasmosaur Neck Length, with Comments on the Taxonomic Utility of Neck Length Variables

Elasmosaur cervical vertebrae are common fossils, but their taxonomic utility is limited due to a lack of understanding concerning their shape within and among taxa. In this paper, we analyze data from complete elasmosaur necks in an attempt to quantify and understand the variation in centrum dimensions. In accord with previous studies, variation in cervical centrum shape is found to stem from ...

Comparative Evaluation of Prevalence of Upper Cervical Vertebrae Anomalies in Cleft Lip/Palate Patients: A Retrospective Study

PURPOSE The patients with cleft lip and palate have a higher risk of cervical vertebrae anomalies than do patients in general population. The aim of present study was to determine the prevalence of various upper cervical spine anomalies in different type of clefts. PROCEDURES Lateral cephalograms of 128 patients (66 males, 62 females) with cleft lip and palate, and 125 (60 males, 65 females) ...

Relationship between Dental Development and Cervical Vertebrae Development Assessed Using Radiography in an Iranian Population

Introduction: Determining the skeletal age and remaining growth potential of patients are important factors in orthodontic treatment. Evaluating cervical vertebrae development is a reliable method for determining skeletal age. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between dental calcification and stages of skeletal maturation. Materials and methods: This descriptive cross-sectional st...

Correlation between dental maturation and bone growth markers in paediatric patients.

AIM Many studies have been made to evaluate the growth, development and maturation of cervical vertebrae. These studies make clear how those vertebrae have growth patterns and centre of ossification similar to those in carpal bones, therefore cervical vertebrae can be used to determine bone age. The aim of the present study is the observation of cervical vertebrae in cephalometric radiographs t...
